Day 8 had us taking the train from Naples to Scilla. When Gianfranco picked us up he asked if we had pastry at Gran Cafe Gambrinus the day before. When we said no that we did not have the chance.
“We have time, we’ll go now” was the answer. You can’t refuse Gianfranco.
We hated to say goodbye at the station as Gianfranco became a real friend. The train trip was about five hours, but I booked first class as it was only a little more money. The seats were comfortable, but there wasn’t any refreshment service. Luckily we brought our own.
When we arrived in Scilla, after about a 20 minute car ride from Reggio Calabria, we were amazed to say the least. The photos don’t do it justice.
After checking into the Hotel Scilla a small family run hotel we had time for a nice leisurely walk down to Ristorante Il Casato ( photo on the right ) were we had dinner booked.
Now I am not a fish person, but I figured were here, looks good I’ll go for it. Let me tell you the food was amazing. It was as though the chef plucked the fish out of the sea and cooked it.
If you are ever in Scilla, DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE.
Walking back up to the hotel took a lot more effort than the way down, but we made it!
Tomorrow the big day in Montebello and Fossato.
