My Naples Experience

During my two week vacation in Italy, a majority of the first week was spent in Naples where I stayed for 6 days. One of the things that surprised me was how Naples bore a similar resemblance to New York City except with less skyscrapers and older buildings. The district of Naples that I was staying in was the historical district of Naples and the churches in Naples are absolutely breathtaking. When in Naples, the most incredible church that I experienced was La Chiesa Di San Giovanni A Carbonara. The murals were breathtaking and there were tremendous ceilings and there were even catacombs where San Giovanni is buried, but one of the things that intrigued me most is that the church is split between two parties. On one half, the church is administered  city of Napoli or Naples and on the other half, the church is administered by the Vatican.

The following day, my family and I drove up to Massa di Somma, a suburb of Naples, located in the hills around the city. Upon arrival, we were greeted with open arms by distant family. They had set up an elaborate Italian feast to celebrate our arrival as my dad descends from the Piromallo family, a family of nobility in Italy. We were treated to music, dancing, and a traditional Italian feast in the dining room. After dinner, I walked onto the roof of the building and was greeting with the majestic landscape of Naples as well as the surrounding mountains. After that, we were brought to the outdoor reception area where we danced, had amazing cakes and pastries, and played musical instruments. It was an interesting experience as well as getting to meet extended family that we did not even know existed.
